how long to you think this system will work? 20 years before it breaks down ?

I understand the aeration stone moves the water which then pulls in more water, but wouldn't a pump be a better idea for moving large volumes of water? Maybe have it cascade in a water fall for aeration? I'm a complete beginner.

Wait... I didn't see how you get water from the deep center filtered out to the permitter? Maybe I missed something.

A swimming pond in Florida had an alligator in it that couldn’t be seen in the depths….owner changed the bottom to white sand so they could check out the pond before swimming.

Looks like a bug and worm and insect fest. Oh and I forgot rats and snakes. Plus no fence and toddlers never should happen. This just is not my cup of tea.

"You can't do it", "Not gonna happen" are the two sentences that make me do it anyway no matter what, just to prove them wrong :) Great looking pond.

This was quite the design and accomplishment. As others have said it would be interesting to see how it worked and looks after a few years. Pools can be a huge disaster area without proper design and maintenance and one should really consider if they are up to the task imo. Plus this one looks like an experimental design. So how did it age ?

The hardwork shows and eases my anxiety over natural pools, and I want to build one that's off grid suitable so badly! As a lifeguard I have been ick nervous about the cloudiness natural pools I have seen, this is amazing. As a Certified Pool Operator Im worried about EVERYTHING (and would probably add a UV in there myself) but also most natural pools do not look this crystal and this gives me hope. As both of these things im terrified by heath effects standard pool chemicals on our bodies; and the wild DIY of this, leaving it accessible and the full tour is really motivating that there could be a way to have a clean natural pool that is -clear and safe- o easily accessible to the average DIYer. Do you have drawing or diagrams?

Beautiful. Running some trim across the top edges of the filter tanks would really finish the look. Is the still water in the tanks mosquito breeding ponds? Where are the plans to this great concept?

Why do I have an itchy PP daddy? Probably due to the septic water your swimming in Son.

Got 300 m2 pond in tropics…… vaporization surely there but not so dramatic……. In EU with much moderate temperatures must be less. Having lilies and wind blockers as David mentions sure helps reducing but just add some water if needed……. Note here we have no rain for nearly 5 months; no other option than so now and then add water (from rain basin)

Update: Children caught a bacteria and gotten very sick.
